The 2012 Festival was another success!
Despite the sometimes-nasty weather, we had a great turnout, accompanied by fantastic classes and fun events. I am grateful to so many people who helped to make the Festival successful, including our lovely Headliner, Iris Schreier of Artyarns; our Free Neck Warmer class leader, Barbara Assejew of Amber Studios, and the Gloria Horn Sewing Studio staff; our Fashion Show emcee and PJ Party celebrity, StevenBe; and our Fashion Show coordinator, Deb Jacknin of Jenn's Jems, just to name a few. A complete list of contributors, volunteers and others who made the event happen will be up on the website next month.
If you left your program behind or were unable to attend, you may download a PDF of the 2012 program online at PghKnitAndCrochet.com/pdfs/8th_annual_program_proof.pdf.
I know many of you were interested in seeing photos from the Festival and the Fashion Show. I promise that we will have details on where to view (and even where to purchase high-resolution digital files or prints) soon. Our fantastic photographer, Alaina Frederick, took hundreds of photos, and we're still going through them all!
We had several raffle prize winners at the show, including Katherine Be, Linda Waha and Pam Elber each receiving Addi needle click sets, and Ember Paranuik, Kris Munsen, Janet Walker and Amy Hughes also taking home prizes. In addition, attendee Mickie Swall won The Natural Knitter by Barbara Albright.
For you sweepstakes lovers, please note that we will resume our enewsletter Sweepstakes program for knitting and crocheting prizes in March.
On a personal note, a week before the Festival took place, my sister Ann was diagnosed with acute leukemia. I have been traveling back and forth quite a bit since the Festival to be with her at the hospital in Morgantown, WV, so I ask that you please be understanding if I don't respond immediately to phone calls or emails. I know my family and I have a long road ahead. Your positive energy, thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.
Warmly,
Barbara Grossman
Thank you for your donations
We've received excellent reports from the organizations that were raising both awareness and donations for their various causes during the Festival, including the following:
SCC offers variety of fiber classes
Join the Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC) for one of its many fiber classes it's offering in the coming months!
If you've ever had an interest in crocheting with wire, don't miss an opportunity to create delicate necklaces of crochet wire, glass and beads with artist Judith Gentile on March 11 or March 24.
Interested in felting? SCC is excited to welcome nationally recognized felt artists to SCC Studio. Thea Clark, a New Jersey artist represented in the SCC Store, uses the warmth of felt next to cool metal in her work. Clark will teach "Felt & Metal: Strategies Jewelry" on March 3 and "Felt & Metal: Beads & Earrings " on March 4.
Visiting from North Carolina, Chad Alice Hagen is the instructor for "Felt Brooch Class" on May 31.
And on July 31 in "Needle Felting: A New Adventure," Briony Foy of Wisconsin will instruct students on a simple needle-felting process that is as spontaneous as drawing with a pencil or finger painting.
