No registration necessary Spend a little time or a lot of time just hanging out with your friends knitting or crocheting a square for the Warm Up America Foundation. Instructors from Pat Catan’s will be on hand to assist you. Pat Catan’s will provide yarn and needles for your use. The squares, knitted or crocheted, are assembled and distributed to families in need. Since 1992, Warm Up America has donated more than 250,000 quilts to homeless shelters, women’s shelters, churches, hospices, hospitals, nursing homes, Red Cross chapters, and more. Make a 7 x 9 inch square, learn a new stitch, and spend some time socializing while you do some charity work. No registration necessary. Friday PM and All day Saturday and Sunday.
Needle Felted Neck Warmer: This make it and take it class is open Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday, is for all ages, and is FREE with your admission. It requires no knitting or crochet experience. This neck warmer/scarf will focus on “Upcycling.” You will create a neck warmer and using old sweaters or fleece, and embellish with silk, ribbons, fiber, yarns, etc., to create a functional, wearable art “scarf.” Barbara Assejew will be on hand to assist you with the color selection and instructions. Babylock will provide machines to use throughout the weekend. Gloria’s Sewing machine store’s staff will also assist you with the machines. Old sweaters, fleece, yarns, silk ribbons, fabric pieces, fibers, will be provided for you to explore your creativity. This is an open classroom format in the prefunction area. There is no reservation or registration necessary. Simple color selection and an easy felting technique is all that is needed to create a “one of a kind” neck warmer for yourself or as a gift. This “scarf” is a creative and imaginative way to use your yarn stash and leftover fabric swatches and a great idea for a home party. You may bring your own yarn, if you prefer, and embellish it with accent beads or a brooch when you get home. Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday. Faux Entrelac Cowl with Iris Schreier "NEW" - FULL 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm $50.00 Cowls are an absolute fashion accessory…Every knitter should have at least 3! Faux entrelac is a technique to use short rows and emulate the entrelac look, without having to pick up any stitches throughout. All stitches are live on the needles and remain so throughout the project. Join me in this session where we’ll learn a special cast on and work from the center out to make this neckwarmer with a twist, completely in the round. This cowl is sure to be a hit with all of your friends! This class is best suited for advanced beginner and above. Registration necessary, class size limited to 20. You will be required to use the long tail cast on to cast on 60 sts to create the cowl. Fair Isle for the Faint at Heart with Heidi Todd Kozar "NEW" - FULL 2:00 - 5:00 pm $25.00 Fair Isle knitting looks intimidating, yet it is one of our most beautiful knitting traditions. Fair Isle knitting involves knitting with one color carried in each hand and only two colors are worked in a round. In this class you will learn the German Twisted Cast-On, corrugated ribbing, reading a color chart, carrying the yarn in each hand, and how to weave in floats. We will discuss a little bit of color theory and how it pertains to Fair Isle knitting. You will knit a small wrist warmer and if you are feeling especially brave we will also reinforce and cut open your knitting. The class materials will also include an exclusive pattern for a Fair Isle Tam. Supplies Needed: Size #5 or 6 and size #8 needles, either two circs or dpns, or one long circ for magic loop, (we will be knitting a small circumference tube) stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors, pen and paper.. In this class you will learn about the different types of drop spindles and their advantages. Your workshop materials fee includes a drop spindle, fiber and written instructions you will use while learning the basics of fiber drafting and spinning. You will take this home and continue to spin effortlessly after taking the class. Plying and finishing of yarn will also be discussed. People with wool allergies should not take this class since wool fibers will be used. Registration required, this class is limited to 15. Double Knitting with Bev Bortner - FULL 1:30 - 4:30 pm $25.00 Back by Popular Demand! This class teaches how to knit a double thick piece of knitting that displays the same design on both sides but one side will have the design in the reverse colors. Example: Side one: Color A is background and design is Color B, Side two: Color A is design and Color B is the background. Students will start a hot pad project. You pick a project – Linda will lead you through it, helping you to make it your own. 3:00 - 4:00: Bind off Methods w/ Jane Bigelow: When learning to knit, we usually learn one or two ways to cast off or bind off. There are so many other methods you can use. You will learn 3 different bind off methods. HOMEWORK FOR THIS SAMPLER: For this class you will need to work 3 stockinette stitch swatches. Cast on 20 sts and knit 1 row, purl 1 row for 1 1/2". Leave yarn attached to one swatch. Finishing Class with Bonnie Meanor "NEW" - FULL 1:30 - 4:00 pm $20.00 Learn some valuable finishing techniques with Bonnie. The class will cover seams-sides, attaching sleeves, shoulders. The importance of shoulders. Necklines: making them neater and changing them if you want to. Hiding yarn ends and planning ahead for easier and neater finishing. Plan to bring questions that you have, write them down in advance. Bonnie aims to show you how to get PIGS* out in the open and the tears dried! Registration required, this class is limited to 12. Recycled Sweaters and Beyond with Karen Stampfle - "NEW" - FULL 2:00 - 5:00 pm $20.00 Create your own knitting handbag with a recycled sweater! This project class shows you how to turn an old sweater into your own personal, unique bag. You will cut and sew, fold and roll, match and patch. You will experiment with roving, yarn, fabric and trims. This is a fun, easy class designed to explore, and play with recycling. Lace Evening Bag with Jean Wise "NEW" - FULL 1:30 - 5:00 pm $25.00 This is an advanced class for students who are familiar with knitting lace and following instructions, patterns. Students will be instructed to knit a “Midnight Splendor” lovely lace evening bag using Kraemer‘s Silk and Silver. The yarn is spun with sterling silver and would be a lovely bag to have for the holidays, for special occasions, or to make as a gift. Instructions will include finishing with a lining of your choice, and for finishing with a button and strap. A must have accessory for every woman!
