Spend a little time or a lot of time just hanging out with your friends knitting or crocheting a square for the Warm Up America Foundation. Instructors from Pat Catan’s will be on hand to assist you. Pat Catan’s will provide yarn and needles for your use. The squares, knitted or crocheted, are assembled and distributed to families in need. Since 1992, Warm Up America has donated more than 250,000 quilts to homeless shelters, women’s shelters, churches, hospices, hospitals, nursing homes, Red Cross chapters, and more. Make a 7 x 9 inch square, learn a new stitch, and spend some time socializing while you do some charity work. No registration necessary. Friday PM and All day Saturday and Sunday.

This make it and take it class is open Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday, is for all ages, and is FREE with your admission. It requires no knitting or crochet experience. This neck warmer/scarf will focus on “Upcycling.” You will create a neck warmer and using old sweaters or fleece, and embellish with silk, ribbons, fiber, yarns, etc., to create a functional, wearable art “scarf.” Barbara Assejew will be on hand to assist you with the color selection and instructions. Babylock will provide machines to use throughout the weekend. Gloria’s Sewing machine store’s staff will also assist you with the machines.  Old sweaters, fleece, yarns, silk ribbons, fabric pieces, fibers, will be provided for you to explore your creativity. This is an open classroom format in the prefunction area. There is no reservation or registration necessary. Simple color selection and an easy felting technique is all that is needed to create a “one of a kind” neck warmer for yourself or as a gift. This “scarf” is a creative and imaginative way to use your yarn stash and leftover fabric swatches and a great idea for a home party. You may bring your own yarn, if you prefer, and embellish it with accent beads or a brooch when you get home.

Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday. This class will be led by Barbara Assejew, Kate Silberberg, Gloria Horn and associates and local fiber artists.

The class format: Each sampler class session is one hour long. There are ten offered. You may take only one class sampler, 2, 3, or all 10. Do you want to move beyond stockinette and garter stitch? Do you find those huge stitch pattern books a little intimidating? Then this class is for you! We will introduce you to different patterns  and techniques that will add texture to your knitting. We will slip stitches, twist stitches and even drop them on purpose. Turn each pattern into a block for an afghan, or add what you have learned to your other knitting projects. 3:00 - 4:00: Go International w/ Robyn Chachula: Come see how easy it is to crochet around the world with symbol diagrams. We will discuss crochet symbol charts and how to use them, plus we will look at crochet patterns from Japan, Russia, and Belgium; and dissect them to see how easy it is to use them with symbol diagrams. (show and tell lecture) $10.00"NEW"

This class is similar to the morning class, except that it is offered for the advanced knitter. Susan will offer tricks, tips and techniques that she has been using for many years. Subjects that will be covered: finishing garments, seams, necks, kitchener stitch, invisible cast-on, design, using the natural tendency of various stitches. Casting or binding off in rib ---- a better way? Buttonholes-- the best kind!! Grafting, knitting backwards, lace, “rolardex,” plus ways to make graph reading easier. This will be a “fluid” class where students can make requests for a certain topic to be covered, and if all are in agreement, different techniques will be covered. Learn new, different, maybe even easier and better techniques to make your knitting easier and more beautiful. Registration necessary, class size limited to 12.

Supplies Needed: Yarn and needles that you are comfortable with for practice, if you have a half finished garment that needs help, please bring it.

Homework: Please knit some swatches in advance to have ready for class. If you forget, Susan will have some extras available. Knit 4 swatches as follows:

2 CO 12 sts, work 6 rows in K1, P1 rib

Join our instructors for an introduction to Fimo clay beads and buttons. Now that you have purchased a kit that requires a unique button or you will be finishing a sweater that needs a special bead for a closure, learn how to make your own. All materials will be provided for you in the class; cutting tools, boards, clay, just bring yourself and your imagination (or a project that you need a special bead or button for.) You will have the opportunity to bake it on site or take it home in a plastic bag with instructions on baking. No experience necessary; for all levels and ages. Learn to wet- felt, without knitting first!  Learn the fun and easy process of wet felting while making a decorative soap that is useful as well. Amy will guide you through the process of wet felting wool into a form without having to knit or crochet the object first. While working together, Amy will discuss how and why wool fiber felts, the different felting methods, and reasons for selecting each type of felting process.

These soaps are really unique and make a great gift for yourself or others. The wool covering is a natural exfollient, anti-microbial and are used just like a washcloth. The soap lasts a long time too, because it doesn’t “melt away” in the shower. Amy will show you how to make a little bowl from the wool “shell” that is left over when the soap is all gone! Registration required, this class is limited to 20.

Supplies Needed: Please bring a bath towel with you and scissors. Tubs and water will be provided in class.

We brought this class back due to many requests.

In this class, you will learn an age old technique; how to wrap yarn around a piece of cloth rope and stitch it together to form a coiled “Navajo” basket. The process involves “starting with the navel” of the basket, the starter spiral, and changing yarn to add colors, and finishing the basket. Students will either take home a small finished basket and the skills to make a larger one or will know the skills required to complete their larger basket. Registration necessary, class size limited to 15.

Materials Needed: You may bring your favorite yarns, worsted weight or heavier (from your stash) and a tapestry needle, although instructor will have extra needles available to borrow and a wide variety of yarns to use as well.

Homework: None

Materials Fee: Approximately $5.00 for roping and yarns, payable to the instructor.

Recycling is so important and is popular among all ages!

Make some lovely flower pins or embellishments for a garment. These can also be worn in the hair. There is no experience needed for this class, some simple sewing skills; a perfect class for Mother and daughter or for the younger person interested in a learning a way to recycle. This would make a great party activity for girls. Students should be able to make 2-3 flowers during the class.  Registration necessary, class size limited to 20.

Supplies Needed: Please bring scissors.

Materials Fee: $8.00, payable to the instructor, for felted sweaters, bar pins, embroidery thread, buttons, beads and needles.

Learn to crochet in the round. The class will then ‘form’ their round over a bowl form and apply stiffening agent to create a hardened decorative bowl. Several patterns from simple sc stitch to more advanced stitches will be options to use. This class is for all levels. Reading a crochet pattern is helpful but being able to follow oral instructions and demonstrations can work also.
Registration necessary, class size limited to 15.

Supplies Needed: Size D, E, F, or H hook, scissors and worsted weight yarn.

Homework: None

Materials Fee: $10.00 fee for yarns and optional beads and buttons to add to the work, bowl forms, and stiffening agent.
